My Philosophy

NOT YOUR AVERAGE
TRAVEL ASSISTANT

With over a decade of experience as a personal-assistant, multiple visits to Florence as a tourist myself and background knowledge acquired through study programs, courses and lots and lots of reading, I am fully equipped to help you navigate through one of the world’s most beautiful cities. I speak Italian and ‘know my chickens’, as the Italians say. But first I need to tell you a bit more about what I do.

SMALL-SCALE TOURISM

Visiting a city like Florence is a unique experience and for many of us a dream coming true. However, finding ourselves in the massive crowds can be overwhelming and very often take away from the experience we were originally going for. I believe in a different kind of tourism. Away from the masses, giving back and contributing to the community we find ourselves in. I tell the stories that get overlooked; I show you the sights that leave you feeling like you really experienced Florence. I provide you with tailor-made itineraries and advice and provide assistance in booking your trip. Apart from that I can give short, interactive lectures to add to your Florentine experience.

My Story

HOW I ENDED UP MOVING TO ITALY

During the summer of 2008 I set foot on Florentine ground for the very first time in my life. I had been in Italy before and had fallen madly in love with the country and the language, but arriving in Florence was absolutely next level. This was home. Back then I was still in university and didn’t give moving to Florence any serious thought at all. Over the next 10 years I wouldn’t do so, to be honest. It wasn’t until the summer of 2017 that it actually became a real option.During a flight back from Florence I made a list of things I’d have to arrange to make it work and once back in Holland, I started telling people I was actually going to do it. Days later I had an apartment, a language school and my first contacts. And most importantly: a moving date!

And so it happened that I quit my job as a personal-assistant, sold my car and rented out my apartment. On the 4th of November 2017 I got on a plane with my cat. I landed with literally no other plan than learning the language and just let life happen to me as I had never done before. I gave myself 3 months to come up with a plan, a permanent living solution and making up my mind about whether I really, really wanted this or not. During the first months of 2018 I made up my mind: I was going to stay.

Florence for me

Florence means the world to me. It’s home, it’s where I can be myself. It’s a collection of masterpieces and a treasure full of hidden stories, unseen artwork and something new to discover at every corner of every cobble stone street. The soft yellow and orange tones provide a warm kind of light that always makes my day. Over a year into my adventure I have discovered that there is so much more to Florence than the highlights that most people visiting the city tick off their lists. And personally, I feel a lot of those unseen and untold aspects are some of the most interesting ones. They provide for an excellent alternative trip to this city, away from the massive crowds that flood the center.

Hope to meet you soon! A presto!
